Organic plums – soft, sweet and naturally aromatic
Organic plums are made from European plums (Prunus domestica), known for their deep purple skin and golden yellow flesh. Gentle drying makes them soft, juicy and naturally sweet – perfect for the flavors of the Finnish winter table.
These plums are stoneless, organic and without added sugar – just plums, dried in a traditional way.
A Finnish Christmas classic
In Finland, dried plums are a strong part of the Christmas flavor spectrum. These large, soft organic plums are particularly good for:
- with Christmas ham and in sauces
- on top of Christmas porridge or in plum pudding
- for tarts, buns and other Christmas pastries
- for mulled wine, desserts and sweets
- to bring a soft sweetness to stews and baked dishes
Their rich sweetness makes them a surefire choice for Christmas.
Cultivation, harvesting and gentle drying
Plums are grown in Bulgaria, where warm summers and cold winters produce large, aromatic fruits. The trees need 800 to 1,000 hours of winter frost to produce a good harvest the following year.
In August and September, ripe plums are gently dropped using a mechanical shaker, after which they are collected on large canvases and taken directly to dry.
First, the plums are slowly dried in the sun. Then, the moisture is mechanically adjusted to ensure a uniform consistency. Then, they are blanched, which makes the flesh particularly juicy, and finally, the stones are removed. The plums are sorted and packed in October.
The result is a soft, full-bodied and deeply aromatic plum.
This is how you use them
Plums are equally suitable for sweet and savory dishes:
- to snack on
- for Christmas cakes, baking and porridge
- for salads, stews and baked dishes
- on the side of Christmas ham or in sauce
- for mulled wine, desserts and sweets
- puree as a natural sweetener
Preservation
Store plums in a dry, dark place. After opening, keep them tightly closed in the refrigerator. If stored properly, they will last up to a year.
